Olaf the Glorious A Story of the Viking Age Robert Leighton 9781519675828 Books
This book contains the life story of Olaf the Glorious, from when he was found as a child to be the long-lost son of the previous king, to his eventual coronation and so on until he was lost from human knowledge. It's a very great story, although the style is, of course, a bit older and thus makes for a slow read. There is also a trend of name-dumping; no battle is fought without every single hero and warrior on every side being named, which can be tedious.
Still, it was a great and sweeping epic with heroes of all sorts and lots of vik...ery going on, and was exactly what I wanted and expected from a 'Story of the Viking Age.'

Olaf the Glorious A Story of the Viking Age Robert Leighton 9781519675828 Books Reviews
Olaf was a small but important part of Scandinavian, English and particularly Norwegian history. This is a good historical novel of his life, but it is limited to his life span. I was hoping for a more extended history of the Norsemen. But it was an enjoyable and enlightening read.
Why hasn't disney touched this one? Too religous? I'm not usually into historical books, but this is very well written. Nice ending too, it wraps the story up enough to be satisfied.
Full of adventure, warriors, revenge, and hope. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in historical fiction and Vikings. I think this would also be a good read for middle school aged kids.
My first introduction to the Viking Age. Learned about the sign of Thor's Hammer.
That alone was worth it. There is no doubt some real history mixed with all of this bravado.
This was an excellent historical novel that tied in events that were simultaneously occurring in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Britain and the surrounding areas. I liked the author's use of grammar that gave the story an oldish flavor, but not so much as to make it a difficult read. I look forward to reading other stories by Robert Leighton.
Very interesting and worth a read. Never had heard of this King before but was impressed by his deeds and the story was well written.
I loved reading this book. I disagree with the other two reviews regarding the ease of reading. Other saga's that I have been reading are more difficult based on the style of writing that is more in keeping with the ways that they spoke 1,000 years ago. This book is much more current and I thought it flowed very nicely. This story has all the ingredients that can make a fine movie. It allows the reader to get a very nice feeling of being there with Olaf and his life story. Anyone that has interest in viking tales should read this one. I simply loved it! It's free, too! If you like this, then read Grettir The Strong.
